From Self Hate |  to Self Love  | With Bikram Yoga

This is  blog I wrote a  year ago,  worth sharing again

… I believe this relates to so many women (and men) so deserves sharing again..

Ok so Self Hate may be a bit strong…

 

however I swear thats how I felt when I looked in the Yoga mirror this morning….

 

Why Self Hate you May ask?

 

…..thats Ok – the Love comes later.. keep reading 🙂

 

I wasn’t feeling my best – as I arrived at my class this morning…

 

However, I Am on a Mission

 

….to Get Fit,

 

To Lose weight ….

 

So I walk every day and I do Yoga as often as I can…

 

Bearing in mind until just under a year ago….

 

– I was doing Bikram Yoga (thats in 40 degrees) 4 x a week back in Wellington, NZ…

 

….It helped me lose about 2 stone…

 

Now Im doing Yoga x 2 a week in a ‘warm room’ – in short

.. Nothing like I was doing…

 

So since being back in the UK – I have put on the weight and I don’t like it one bit..

 

You see – I have very little will power – and my mother Loves her cakes/biscuits..and she buys them.. and so you guessed it – I eat them !!

 

So I start My Class feeling less than great…

 

Looking at My body…

 

Im a ‘Pear Shape’.

… Slim up top and get bigger as I go down…(A Lot of women Have this figure… so don’t feel bad !!)

 

Not ‘big’ by any means… I ‘was’… For me.. pre Bikram Yoga,
took my kids to point out as well as my mother
(can’t you just rely on mums for that !!).. to point out how big I was getting…

So there I was looking at my

Tree Trunk Legs…

“Cankles’….

and hastily Tell myself
You Are slimmer than you were !!

Then we got to this Pose….

 

its called…Dandayamana Bibhaktapada Paschimotthanasana  –

 

aka Standing Separate Leg Stretching Pose

 

which I haven’t been able to do since leaving Wellington – my legs had just ceased up….

 

and then.. i got into it….my head was on the floor

 

OMG

 

OMG I was over the moon –

Let me explain

….I have been doing Yoga for nearly 5 years…

 

and its not easy.. its Hot and its uncomfortable

 

.. and it takes a lot of time persistence, mindset to do the poses…

I was cross with myself for Not being able to do this pose

And then Suddenly I could do it….

I was Sooo thrilled.. I even shouted out

‘ I did it’…

There is talking in this class, although there isn’t usually any talking aloud…

The teacher even jokingly told me off..

But Hey I Did the Pose…

 

I was going to Celebrate My Success!!!

 

Always Celebrate your Success’s

 

..  I AM flexible.. and Like many of you out there –
Who may or may not have read my blog
….- I didn’t think much of myself growing up…

 

 

– so finding out that I Can Actually do Bikram yoga…

 

– and my body kind of likes it – was a MAJOR accomplishment for me…

 

I went from Feeling Self Hate when I first walked in, to Feeling Self Love...

 

I was Soo proud of myself and I started to think of the things about me that I did Love…

 

My Hair (though it has a Life of its own) My smile.

.. my face,

my eyes…

my warmth, kindness..

 

Anyway – as Said I haven’t been able to do this pose – for almost a year – wow.. My head touched the floor…

 

I was Over the moon..

 

And this gave me the confidence to do A Lot of the poses in the rest of the class better..

One such story I heard, whilst at a Talk a year or two ago,

….was how many of the ladies in the Yoga room dislike looking at themselves for 90 minutes

… for me its allowed to me Accept Myself just as I am…

So remember – next time you feel Self Hate

… you can either go to a Bikram Yoga Class and

let your body show you what it can do.. or you can Start Focussing on what You Do Love ABout yourself

And yes – one of the Most important Lessons I’ve learnt in Bikram Yoga and In Life..

IS to Just Like the Yoga Cat – Laugh…

You will often see me Fall out of  pose – and Laugh…

Life is Just too Short to be take it seriously…

Bikram Yoga may not be For you – Personally I think its for everyone…(Its a mindset thing)

You come out Feeling So Much Lighter…

and finally a video I took part in a few years ago…

…at my ‘local’  Bikram yoga studio in Wellington, which I miss !!

so Much Happier – and you move Every tendon, Muscle Cell in your Body…

Remember – When You Love and Accept yourself – The Universe/Law of Attraction starts working WITH you 🙂
